KATSINA – Coordinator, Katsina State National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Hajiya Ramatu Sanda has on Friday said Nigeria will soon lead in the export of products from the Skills Acquisition and Entrepenuership Development, SAED skills.

Hajiya Sanda stated this at the closing ceremony of the 2017 Batch B Stream I, Skills Acquisition and Entrepenuership Development, SAED programmes, in-camp training for the corp members deployed to the state.

The Coordinator expressed satisfaction with the performance of the Corp members whom she said are already doing the scheme proud while urging them to sustain the tempo which is geared towards making the economy of the country virile.

She said the Katsina SAED is one of the best centres in the country while highlighting some of the achievements recorded by the Corp members so far.

In her words: “It is my candid hope that Nigeria will soon be one of the leading exporters of products from SAED skills areas thereby making the economy of the country a virile one.

“Katsina has one of the best SAED centre. NYSC Katsina harvested some trophies in the just concluded maiden National Corps Entrepreneurship festival held at Nigeria Air force headquarters, Abuja in October this year specifically, the state took second position in the country in Cake artistry and third position in Fashion designing respectively. The highly impressive outing has immensely boosted the moral and drive of all corps members in the state in SAED activities.

“Within the period under review, the Corps members were equipped with identified tangible income generating skills, employability skills and have been connected to empowerment resources, programmes and opportunities offered by CBN, BOI and Credit Direct.

“Having successfully undergone SAED training, it is evident that these corps members have been exposed to two pathways. These include pathway to entrepreneurship and pathway to employability. The pathway to entrepreneurship supports corps members to develop their capabilities to start and run a business on an area of their choice. While the pathway to employability support corps members to develop their capacity to deliver their values in a comprehensive job market through the job advisory and counseling training,” she said.

Earlier, the Special Assistant to Governor Aminu Bello Masari on Women and Youth Empowerment, Hajiya Bilkisu Jibrin Saulawa stressed the need for the Corp members to urgently shift attention from certificate acquisition to skill acquisition.

Meanwhile, a total number of 2116 corps members, comprising of 1145 males and 971 females participated in the SAED training of skills of Welding, Film and Photos, Tie and Dye, Pottery, Catering, Auto-Electrical and Auto-Mechanic to mention but a few.
