By James Agberebi:
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed that David Silva is fit to play in Sunday’s Manchester derby against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Guardiola announced earlier this week that Silva could miss the clash against United due to an injury he picked up in the 2-1 comeback win against Newcastle last weekend with Silva scoring the winning goal.

The former Valencia player was left out of the City squad that suffered their first defeat of the season in their 2-1 away loss to Shakhtar Donetsk on matchday six of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.

Speaking ahead of the derby in his pre-match press conference on Friday, Guardiola said: “He’s going to play.

“After West Ham there was a bit of doubt, but today he arrived and says he’s really good,” the former Barcelona coach added.

Guardiola played down City’s record-equalling 13 straight Premier League victories, which his team would break with a win on Sunday.

He said: “If you are playing one game thinking about a record you forget what you have to do to win games. Sooner or later the (PL consecutive win) record will be broken but my concern is how to win the game.”

The former Bayern Munich manager reminisced on watching the Manchester derby as a youngster.

“When I grew up watching English football in the 1980’s, they were the best one. Many years after that it was under Sir Alex, with young players for United,” Guardiola said.

“I was lucky to play two finals of the Champions League against them, and learn how important the club is.

“Going to Old Trafford is a pleasure. I am a manager to play these kind of games, to play Champions League and derbies is fascinating for us. I will enjoy it, definitely.”

And on the latest news on Vincent Kompany and Fabian Delph, Guardiola explained: “Vincent before Shakhtar felt something was not comfortable and that’s why he could not play.

“Delph was sick, he was vomiting and had a fever, and that’s why he didn’t play.

“Tomorrow we’ll check their conditions.”
